Russia’s Answer To The Boeing 737 MAX Just Took Flight

On December 2, 2023, Russia's Irkut Corporation completed its initial flight test of the MC-21 airliner, marking a significant step in the aircraft’s development. This maiden voyage occurred at the Kolyma Airport near Yakutsk, Siberia, demonstrating the aircraft’s operational capabilities under challenging conditions. The MC-21 is designed as a direct competitor to the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320 families. Notably, the new jet incorporates a greater reliance on domestically sourced parts compared to previous iterations.
