USAF designates GE-Kratos engine as F143 and awards initial production contract

The US Air Force (USAF) has officially designated the GE Aerospace and Kratos jointly developed GEK800 turbofan engine as the F143-ZZ-100. This 800lbf (3.5kN)-thrust engine will specifically power Lockheed’s JASSM cruise missile program. The USAF awarded a preliminary production contract for this small, low-cost turbofan to the two companies. Initial production of the engine is slated to begin immediately following the contract award. This marks a significant step in modernizing air defense capabilities with an affordable propulsion solution.
