The Real Reason Why The US Air Force Rejected The B-52's Purpose-Built Radome From Its Modernization

The United States Air Force has decided to maintain the original radome on the B-52 Stratofortress during its ongoing modernization efforts. This decision was primarily driven by concerns regarding the integration of a newly developed, purpose-built Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar system. Specifically, challenges were identified in seamlessly incorporating this advanced radar into the B-52’s existing structural design and operational requirements. The Air Force opted for a more straightforward approach, preserving the heritage radome which had been in place since the aircraft's initial deployment.
