Swiss International Air Lines has announced its definitive plan to decommission all of its Airbus A340 aircraft by 2027, marking the end of long-haul operations utilizing this particular quadjet type for the airline. This strategic decision follows years of declining passenger demand and evolving fleet preferences within Swiss’s network. The retirement represents a significant shift in Swiss's operational strategy as it continues to modernize its long-range capabilities. As part of this transition, the last remaining A340 will be preserved as a museum piece. It will reside alongside a historic Swissair Convair 990 at the Aviation Museum of Switzerland in Lucerne.
