Poland scrambles fighters after Russian Mi-8 breaches airspace near Kaliningrad

Polish air defense forces scrambled fighter aircraft following a breach of Polish airspace by a Russian Armed Forces Mi-8 helicopter. The incident occurred north of Braniewo, situated close to the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. According to reports, the Russian helicopter entered Polish territory at approximately 3:40 PM local time on June 29th, 2023. Polish authorities immediately initiated procedures to identify and intercept the unauthorized flight. Subsequently, NATO was notified regarding this intrusion into sovereign airspace.
