NASA’s Perseverance Captures Phobos and Earth

On July 2, 2026, at the 1,907th Martian sol of its mission, NASA's Perseverance rover captured a unique and scientifically valuable composite image using its Mastcam-Z instrument. This image depicts Earth as a small, bright dot in motion, transitioning from the upper left portion of the frame to the lower right. During this observation, Phobos, Mars’ moon, passed directly between Perseverance and Earth. Scientists believe that this event provides an unprecedented opportunity for detailed study of both celestial bodies simultaneously.
