NASA’s Moon Orbiter Spots New, ‘Once-in-Century’ Moon Crater

NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) detected a previously unseen crater on the Moon during a standard data quality assessment conducted by scientist Robert Wagner. The discovery involved identifying a significant bright feature surrounded by a darker halo within a detailed lunar map analyzed via computer. Wagner noted that this anomaly suggested recent disturbance of surface materials at the location of the new crater. Scientists believe this represents a ‘once-in-century’ event, indicating an infrequent occurrence of such impact activity on the Moon's surface. Further investigation is planned to determine the size and origin of the newly identified crater.
