NASA pilots conducted an observation mission during the August 12th total solar eclipse across Europe. The primary objective of this scientific endeavor was to investigate the unusually high temperature of the Sun's corona. Scientists sought to determine the reasons behind the corona’s heat compared to the Sun’s visible surface. A team of pilots from NASA’s Johnson Space Center utilized the WB-57F research aircraft for this critical study. These flights originated from Ellington Field in Houston and culminated in a location in Iceland.
