This specific sensor is among ten MAIA units currently operational and contributing valuable data to NASA’s research initiatives. The primary focus of the MAIA system is analyzing particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller – commonly referred to as PM2.5. These tiny particles are recognized globally as a significant contributor to adverse health effects due to their dangerous nature. Data collected by this sensor will aid scientists in understanding aerosol characteristics within urban environments.
