Klimov developing turboprop demonstrator for An-2 modernisation

Russian manufacturer United Engine is constructing a Klimov VK-1600S turboprop engine demonstrator specifically designed for the modernization of the Antonov An-2 aircraft. The powerplant will be based upon a helicopter engine, utilizing technology from the VK-1600S design. Completion of design documentation has been achieved for the prototype engine. The next phase involves building and testing the demonstrator engine. This project aims to provide a new propulsion option for smaller aircraft types.
