GE9X engine shipments paused as GE addresses durability problem

GE Aerospace has temporarily halted shipments of the GE9X engines powering Boeing’s 777X aircraft due to a discovered durability issue. The problem centers around a crack identified in a mid-seal component within the engine design. Boeing initially revealed this concern in January, and GE subsequently verified its existence. Despite the pause, Boeing anticipates resuming GE9X deliveries during the current quarter. FlightGlobal reports that GE Aerospace aims for resumption by October, following resolution of the underlying durability challenges.
