Boeing Scrapped An Unused 777X Rather Than Pay The Huge Rework Costs

Boeing has disposed of an early-built Boeing 777-9 airframe which remained unflyable at its Everett facility since 2019. This particular aircraft, partially painted in Emirates livery, was originally slated for delivery to the airline. However, the decision was made to dismantle the jet due to significant rework costs associated with the 777X program. The project faced substantial financial challenges, leading to a reassessment of economic viability. Consequently, Boeing opted to scrap the unused airframe rather than incur further expenses related to the extensive modifications required.
