First Airbus variant modified with shark skin inspired film nears approval

Lufthansa Technik is finalizing the certification process for a modification to Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft. This project involves applying a film inspired by shark skin technology to the fuselage of these airliners. The aim of this innovative approach is to reduce drag and consequently lower fuel consumption during flight operations. Lufthansa Technik anticipates securing regulatory approvals within the coming period, marking a significant step forward. Initial tests have demonstrated promising results regarding performance improvements with the new coating.
