Did Venus eat its own moon?

A new study suggests Venus devoured its original moon, potentially explaining the planet’s current lack of satellites. Researchers analyzed data collected by NASA’s Parker Solar Probe and found evidence of intense heat near Venus’ surface during the moon’s existence. This extreme thermal activity likely stripped away much of the planet’s atmosphere, including material from the moon. The findings indicate that the moon was gradually eroded through this process over billions of years. Scientists believe this consumption event is a primary reason why Venus failed to retain a large moon like Earth.
