On July 8, 2026, UC Berkeley engineers and managers observed the careful raising of the COSI (Compton Spectrometer and Imager) detector assembly. This new detector’s design incorporates four pieces of silver material positioned atop the detector box. These materials specifically protect the flex circuits within the assembly. These circuits are responsible for transmitting data signals originating from the detectors themselves. The COSI project represents a significant advancement in Compton imaging technology, promising enhanced capabilities for future space exploration missions.
