Vilnius Airport Closed & NATO Fighter Jets Scrambled After Birds Mistaken For A Drone

Vilnius International Airport was temporarily closed on July 26th following an incident involving multiple fighter jets scrambled by NATO forces. The initial trigger for the alert stemmed from suspicious radar signatures detected near the airport’s airspace. Investigations revealed that a large flock of birds had been misidentified as a drone by the radar system. Consequently, seventeen F-15 Eagle aircraft were dispatched from Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania to investigate and intercept the perceived threat. Following confirmation that no hostile object existed, the jets returned to base and the airport reopened after approximately two hours.
