US Air Force to advance B-52 engine and radar upgrades with additional test aircraft

The United States Air Force is moving forward with significant modernization efforts for its Boeing B-52 Stratofortress fleet, marking key developmental milestones for two ongoing programs. Early-stage engineering development has been approved for the re-engine effort, aiming to enhance the bomber’s performance capabilities. Simultaneously, a new radar system is currently in low-rate initial production, representing another critical upgrade. To bolster these initiatives, the Air Force intends to convert an additional two B-52 aircraft into test platforms. These test aircraft will provide vital support during the engine and radar upgrades, ensuring successful integration of the advanced systems.
