US Air Force moves closer to ski-equipped C-130J Hercules

The US Air Force is pursuing the development of a specialized C-130J Hercules aircraft equipped with skis, marking a significant step towards enhanced operational capabilities in challenging terrain. Sierra Nevada Corporation has been awarded a contract valued at $31,789,335 for this project’s design and development phase. The kit being created by SNC will enable the modified C-130Js to operate effectively across snowy environments like Greenland and Antarctica. This initiative aims to improve access to remote locations for logistical support and potential military operations. Preliminary designs are currently underway, focusing on integrating ski systems into the existing Hercules platform.
