The United States Air Force (USAF) retired the E-86 Honeybee, its sole theater-wide ground radar jet, on December 15, 2023, due to significant technical challenges and delays. The aircraft’s primary mission was providing persistent surveillance and battle management capabilities across Europe and Africa. Despite a $4 billion investment, the Honeybee consistently failed to meet operational requirements, particularly concerning its ability to maintain continuous operation.
