The UK's 'Expanded' F-35 Fleet Won't Add A Single Jet Until The 2030s

The United Kingdom’s ambitious plans to expand its fleet of Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II multirole combat aircraft have been significantly revised, delaying any new jet acquisitions until at least the 2030s. Initial projections indicated a phased rollout beginning in the late 2020s, but recent assessments by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) now foresee a substantial shift in strategy. This decision stems from ongoing challenges related to sustaining and maintaining the existing fleet, which currently numbers 138 aircraft. The MoD acknowledges that operational demands are placing considerable strain on available resources and logistical support networks. Consequently, prioritizing immediate expansion is deemed impractical given these constraints, necessitating a more cautious approach to future procurement.
