The Shared Radar Warning Receiver Limitation Of The F-15, F-16, & F/A-18

Legacy fighter aircraft like the F-15, F-16, and F/A-18 face significant limitations due to their reliance on shared radar warning receiver (RWR) systems. These RWRs are inherently vulnerable as they operate on a single frequency, making them susceptible to jamming by enemy forces. This vulnerability has been demonstrated repeatedly throughout recent conflicts, notably during operations over Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan. The current architecture of these receivers creates a predictable signature that adversaries can exploit with relatively simple countermeasures.
