Sweden spins up rotorcraft renewal as first NH90s readied for exit

Sweden’s military is initiating a significant overhaul of its battlefield transport fleet, marking the beginning of a phased retirement process starting in 2027. The initial step involves decommissioning nine NH Industries NH90 battle transports, scheduled to commence next year. This transition will pave the way for a new generation of aircraft, specifically a fleet of Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawks. Current ASW-role NH90 helicopters are projected to remain operational until at least the following decade. Stockholm announced this plan in 2022, solidifying Sweden's commitment to modernizing its rotorcraft capabilities.
