Spiral’s Edge

A new image shows the distant spiral galaxy's unique perspective.

Spiral’s Edge

The James Webb Space Telescope has produced an astounding new image of the intermediate spiral galaxy NGC 1827, observed by the Hubble Space Telescope on October 16, 2026. This stunning view showcases the galaxy’s edge-on orientation and reveals its distance of approximately 37 million light-years from Earth. The observation took place in the constellation Columba, also known as the Dove. Scientists were conducting a comprehensive survey focusing on 260 satellite galaxies surrounding 22 Milky Way-like host galaxies within a specified radius. Data collected during this survey continues to provide valuable insights into galactic structure and evolution.
