P&WC starts ground testing hybrid powertrain for flight trials in 2027

Pratt & Whitney Canada (PW) has finished initial ground tests of its new hybrid-electric propulsion system, designed to power a modified De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100 aircraft. The innovative system incorporates a completely redesigned thermal engine and a 1 megawatt motor. These components will operate together as part of the propulsion unit. Flight trials are scheduled to commence next year, marking a significant step toward integrating electric technology into regional aviation. This project represents PW’s commitment to developing sustainable solutions for air travel within the planned 2027 timeframe.
