The NIH–NASA QuSAFE Challenge is fostering advancements in quantum-enabled sensing technologies specifically designed for in vitro Named Anatomical Models (NAMs). This collaborative effort focuses on utilizing these models – including organoids and microphysiological systems (MPS) – to enhance the prediction of drug toxicity and overall safety profiles. Researchers are leveraging quantum sensors within these in vitro environments to gain deeper insights into potential adverse effects. A key objective is to minimize reliance on animal testing by providing more accurate preclinical data through this innovative approach. Initial work centers around developing and validating quantum-enhanced techniques applicable to various NAM platforms, representing a significant step toward safer drug development.
