NASA’s IXPE Studies Magnetar

NASA's IXPE spacecraft completed over 140 hours of focused observation on the magnetar 1E 1547-5408 during the period from March to April 2025. These observations were conducted using an artist’s conception released on August 5, 2026. Scientists utilized IXPE’s capabilities to study this specific celestial object. The data collected represents a significant advancement in understanding extreme astrophysical phenomena. Researchers believe they may have observed empty space exhibiting behavior consistent with theoretical predictions established nearly ninety years ago.
