This marks the initial combined observation effort of the two powerful telescopes on this specific category of celestial objects. Researchers discovered a significant discrepancy between predicted and observed numbers of smaller TNOs, revealing an unexpected reduction in their population. Specifically, some of the smallest and faintest TNOs detected to date were identified through this joint study. The findings suggest a potential need to revise current models regarding the formation and evolution of these distant solar system bodies.
