NASA Awards First Prize in Phase 2 of Agency’s LunaRecycle Challenge

NASA has announced the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s CERBERUZ team as the winner of Phase 2 of the LunaRecycle Challenge. This competition aimed to develop innovative methods for minimizing waste generated during lunar missions or deep space exploration. Specifically, the MIT team’s technology focuses on transforming discarded materials – including fabrics, plastics, foam, and metals – into a usable powdered form. They achieved this through grinding mixed waste products into a fine powder utilizing their system. The Composites for Extraterrestrial Recycling By Engineering the Reuse and Upcycling of Zotek (CERBERUZ) team secured $775,000 in prize money following successful demonstration of their recycling process.
