Lufthansa to Certify Drag-Reducing ‘Shark Skin’ for A330

Lufthansa has announced plans to certify a drag-reducing coating, dubbed ‘shark skin,’ developed by Surface Technologies (ST). This innovative technology utilizes a textured surface mimicking shark skin to minimize aerodynamic resistance. The initial testing phase is scheduled to commence with Discover Airlines utilizing an A330-300 aircraft. ST anticipates the coating's certification process will take approximately six months following successful trials. Lufthansa intends to integrate this technology across its fleet once validated for operational efficiency and performance gains.
