Joby partners with Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick to build vertiports

On August 4, 2026, Joby Aviation revealed its collaboration with Atoms, a company founded by Uber’s Travis Kalanick, focused on developing vertical transportation infrastructure. This partnership aims to construct vertiport locations across the United States, specifically targeting high-density urban areas. The initial phase of this project will concentrate on establishing operational hubs in California and New York City. Joby anticipates utilizing these new facilities for their electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft operations. Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate rapid passenger transport within cities through this innovative air mobility network.
