Istanbul opens sixth runway and first with east-west orientation

Istanbul Airport officially inaugurated its sixth runway, designated 09/27, on September 18th as part of a larger expansion project. This new concrete runway stretches 2,820 meters in length and is aligned east-west, marking the airport’s inaugural runway configuration in this direction. The primary goal of this second-phase development is to enhance Istanbul's operational flexibility and capacity as a major aviation hub. Officials anticipate increased traffic flow facilitated by the expanded infrastructure. Construction continues on subsequent elements of the overall expansion plan at the Turkish airport.
