FAA begins using AI to predict congestion and reduce flight delays

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is implementing an artificial intelligence system designed to anticipate potential air traffic congestion across the nation’s airspace. This new technology will analyze real-time data, including weather patterns, aircraft movements, and operational constraints, to proactively identify areas of increased demand. The FAA intends for this predictive capability to enable more efficient routing strategies and ultimately minimize disruptions within the National Airspace System. Initial deployments are focused on major airports like Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Miami, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, and Washington D.C., with plans for expansion based on performance metrics.
