Canada joins GCAP sixth-generation fighter programme as an observer

Ottawa has become an observer within the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), a multinational initiative focused on developing sixth-generation fighters. Canada’s participation allows them to monitor advancements in the program, which currently involves collaboration between the UK, Japan, and Italy. This agreement establishes increased visibility for Canada regarding the development of this advanced combat aircraft system. Notably, Ottawa is not planning to purchase the GCAP fighter itself at this time.
