ATR is aiming to finalize the initial design of its hybrid-electric ATR 72-600 demonstrator by the end of this year, marking a significant step toward their future Evo variant of the twin-turboprop aircraft. The airframer is exploring new propulsion architectures as part of several options being investigated for this project. This “baseline” design will serve as a foundation for testing and validation activities planned for 2029 when the demonstrator is expected to begin flight operations. A successful outcome from this phase will contribute significantly to the development of the next generation regional aircraft. Ultimately, ATR intends to leverage these findings in the evolution of the ATR 72 family.
