Astronomers discover mysterious 10-sided cloud structure at Saturn's south pole

Scientists have identified an unusual and complex weather phenomenon surrounding Saturn’s southern hemisphere. The discovery centers on a newly observed formation characterized by a distinct ten-sided geometric shape. This intricate cloud structure was detected through observations made using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. Researchers utilized ALMA data to map the temperature and composition of the atmosphere at this location. Initial analysis suggests that these swirling clouds are likely driven by atmospheric turbulence and jet streams within the planet’s system.
