Antenna Testing for NASA’s SkyFall Mission

NASA’s Skyfall mission is utilizing ground-penetrating radar technology to investigate subsurface ice deposits beneath Mars' south polar region. Engineer Maya Román conducted antenna tests within the Environmental Test Lab’s electromagnetic interference testing chamber at JPL in Southern California. During these tests, the antenna was oriented upwards to reduce potential reflections and interference impacting the measurements. Each of the four instruments used were equipped for comprehensive data collection. This focused approach aims to accurately map the extent and characteristics of the hidden ice layers as part of the Skyfall project.
