3 Hospitalized, 11 Injured After Smoke-Filled Delta A330 Makes Emergency Landing In Portugal

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 767-32ER aircraft experienced a critical event during its transatlantic flight on Tuesday, resulting in multiple injuries and hospitalizations. The incident occurred over the Atlantic Ocean approximately 50 miles west of Porto, Portugal, as the plane was en route from New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport to Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport. Pilots initiated an immediate declaration of an emergency due to the presence of smoke within the cabin, necessitating swift action by crew members. Flight attendants subsequently utilized supplemental oxygen for passengers and crew to mitigate potential health risks caused by the fumes. As a result of the situation, thirteen individuals sustained injuries; three were transported to hospitals for further medical attention while ten others received on-site treatment.
